Elegant script lettering without a pen. Get light and bold calligraphy styles, plus decorative frames.
Pointed pen lettering is the formal style used on wedding invitations, certificates and old letters, and a calligraphy font generator imitates it with script letters you can paste anywhere. A real calligrapher gets thick and thin strokes by pressing a flexible nib harder on the downstrokes. Unicode happens to have two weights of script letters, originally added for math, and they mimic that effect: a light script (𝒸𝒶𝓁𝓁𝒾ℊ𝓇𝒶𝓅𝒽𝓎) and a heavier one (𝓬𝓪𝓵𝓵𝓲𝓰𝓻𝓪𝓹𝓱𝔂) that looks like it was written with more pressure.
Unicode script letters are separate characters, so they can't join the way real handwriting does. Each letter sits on its own, like a very neat printed script. For most bios and captions this looks elegant. For a logo or a wedding sign you'll want a real script font or a calligrapher.
Eleven letters (ℬ ℰ ℱ ℋ ℐ ℒ ℳ ℛ ℯ ℊ ℴ) sit in a separate part of Unicode from the rest of the script alphabet. On some phones they come out a touch bolder or lighter than their neighbors, which most readers never notice.
Light script looks the most elegant at large sizes but can look faint in small text or on dark backgrounds. If your text sits in a bio or a comment, bold script is usually the safer choice. Avoid all capitals in either weight. Script capitals are full of loops, and a row of them gets hard to read quickly.
