Add bold, italic and underline text to LinkedIn posts, headlines and your About section.
Post limit 3,000 characters · Headline limit 220
LinkedIn posts don't have a bold or italic button. You get plain text and line breaks, so long posts turn into a wall of words. LinkedIn fonts fix that by swapping your letters for bold or italic Unicode characters that look formatted but are really just text. Paste them into a post, comment, headline or About section and they stay styled.
Used well, a bold first line works like a headline. It gives people a reason to tap "see more" instead of scrolling past.
| Style | Example | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Sans Bold | 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 | Hooks and section labels. Matches LinkedIn's own interface font best. |
| Serif Bold | 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 | A more traditional, editorial feel |
| Sans Italic | 𝘒𝘦𝘺 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘴 | Quotes, book titles, a softer emphasis |
| Monospace | 𝙺𝚎𝚢 𝚕𝚎𝚜𝚜𝚘𝚗𝚜 | Code, commands, technical terms |
| ▸ Bold Bullet | ▸ 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 | Lists inside a post |
Sans bold is the safe default. It sits naturally next to LinkedIn's normal text, while serif bold can look a little out of place.
Leave job titles and skills in plain text so recruiters searching for them can still find you, and put your bold hook in the first line, since that's what shows above the fold.
Why those rules matter, plus three post formats you can copy, is covered in our guide on how to use bold text on LinkedIn.
Each style here has its own page with more options: the bold text generator, the italic text generator and the underline text generator.
